The main focus of Juliana Do's work is the human body. Her artistic approach and methods portray the human body and soul which allows us to reflect on our own humanity. Her other main focus is abstraction. I really like how Do varies what kind of art she makes while still knowing exactly what she is interested in doing. Some artists always do the same thing, which is totally okay, but I enjoy seeing the difference between the styles of her art. I think her color palette is beautiful as well- most of her abstract paintings are made of red orange and light blue paint. The marks she makes in her abstract paintings are done one at a time which creates an extreme level of intricacy in her works even though there isn't too much else going on. Overall, my favorite thing about Do is her approach to it all. I'm so happy she knows exactly what she's passionate about in terms of artistic styles and approaches.
In Lauren DiCioccio's series "Sewnnews", she embroiders images found in The New York Times on muslin which she then wraps around the newspaper so the original image is barely visible. One of my favorite things about DiCioccio's work is her use of line to create textures in the images that were not present beforehand. Seeing how line is used in different mediums such as string emphasizes how important line quality is. These works would not be as interesting if not for the mark DiCioccio has presented in her pieces. Another beautiful thing about this series is the exaggeration of color. Typically, newspapers are relatively bland even if their images are printed in color. DiCioccio brings more attention to the not incredibly interesting pictures that are sometimes overlooked. I love everything about this series. |
