Artist Statement
My body of work is focused around three main concepts. These concepts are form, color, and process. When creating a piece, I consider all of these things and try to make something that intrigues the viewer to look closer. To me, the process that happens in order to create my work is far more important than the meaning behind it. I am currently trying to get a feel for what my skills allow me to do and what I think is the most visually interesting.
Color is one of my favorite things to play around with in a piece. Combining different colors to evoke certain emotions is an art that I am trying to master. I think that color placement in a work can be seriously effective in terms of being nice to look at so I am also working towards being good at that. Form is an extremely common theme throughout my body of work. Since I mostly do more abstract pieces, form is basically the entirety of my work. I always try to achieve depth with my forms and create the illusion of something more than simply paint on paper. Technique is another thing I have been experimenting with recently to add variation to my body of work. Taking risks is part of my artistic journey, so that’s what I’ve been doing.
