I recently just stumbled across Alex Beck's work on the Gallery 5 website. Upon further investigation, I found out that Beck is an award winning painter! This is no shock, given that he painted this beautiful portrait pictured above. This piece has no official title, but the caption on his Tumblr says that it is a portrait done of a friend for his monthly portrait group. I've always been interested in portraiture, and this one is just stunning. I really enjoy the feeling of movement in this piece and how it looks like a normal portrait from first glance. The contrasting pink and blue tones along with the layers of paint in the background create an almost hectic sort of feeling that plays off of the juxtaposed facial features. I absolutely love this piece and I hope to go see some of his shows in the future.
